Join instructor Judi Steffke to explore portraiture of the furry kind: painting our pets! You will be introduced to oil painting with a focus on portraying the likeness and personality of animals. Fundamental oil painting techniques, including color mixing, brushwork, composition, and layering will be addressed. Students will have the opportunity to choose their preferred subjects or bring in photographs of their beloved pets for inspiration. Please bring in a photo of your pet or subject as a reference for the first session. Week one will teach the basic techniques of painting various furs, whiskers, feathers, and shapes. You will then sketch your pet onto a 20-by-16-inch canvas. The remaining three classes will be spent on your pet portrait with guidance along the way to make your own pet portrait.
This four-week course will be held 5:30-8:30 pm, on Thursdays, September 5-26 in the Idonea Hersee Classroom at Art Reach, 111 E. Broadway, Mt. Pleasant, MI.
