Instructor Matthew Grimmer will lead this six-week course in rendering portraits in graphite and oil. During the first 3 weeks, students will learn the basics of oil painting and capturing a subject from life. This involves learning brush handling and technique, simple color mixing, and learning to accurately draw from observation.  During the last 3 weeks, students will use these skills to create a portrait from a live, clothed model, with instruction and critique throughout the process. Each week, students will progress on their previous painting, using a layer-by-layer method.

This 6-week course takes place from 12-3 pm on Fridays, March 7-April 18, (skipping March 28 for Spring Break) in the Idonea Hersee Classroom at Art Reach, 111 E. Broadway in Mount Pleasant
